“The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” – Chinese Proverb (From Dao De Jing by Laozi, not by Confucius.)

Some journeys are on the express lane, and some take winding back roads. they all start somewhere, and they all have a destination – even if the final destination isn’t known at the onset of the journey.

We are all on a journey, and we all started from somewhere. Sometimes we wander together, and sometimes seemingly alone. This is my journey, and I am grateful you are choosing to share this part of it with me.

On this journey, I will be documenting my path as I search for wellness – physical, emotional, mental, financial, and social. My primary focus will be on physical wellbeing, but as we a system made up of very intertwined systems made up of intertwined systems… it will be impossible to look at this just this one aspect of wellbeing in isolation and remain honest about the goal of overall wellbeing.

At this point, it seems a little prudent to tell you something about myself. I am a husband and father of four, and I have struggled with my health and weight for much of my adult life. As of the time I am writing this, I have about 60 pounds of excess fat to lose.

Now, you may be wondering why you should listen to someone who not only has not reached their fitness and wellness goals, but clearly has so far to go to reach them. That is an excellent question. I don’t claim to have all the answers, or even be in a position where I can tell you what you should do with any sort of authority. But I can tell you I have tried a lot of different things over the years, and I know what doesn’t work for me.

I’ve done a lot of research, bought a lot of programs and books, and read a lot of free resources. In addition to serving as a means of accountability for myself, this can also help you avoid some of the mistakes I have made, and wasted dollars and hours. Critical thinking is a wonderful, and increasingly rare thing these days it seems. So is personal responsibility and taking ownership for your choices and your life.

But these are topics for another post. The point is, while I am not offering medical advise, I hope my story and experiences can help make your own journey smoother. We all have our own journey, and this is mine.
